This formation is playing contemporary, imrovisational chamber music. Inroduced itself to the public
in the autumn of 2002 on the GyorFree Music Festival. The group's compositions are inspired by the
musical cultures of Africa, the Far East, and the Balkans; but in the more strictly structured pieces
the influences of medieval music, European folk music and contemporary music can be discovered.
Ektar is an Indian word, which means one single string. In their expressiveness, melody variations
and rythmic sensitivity, the four musicians truly seem to resonate to the vibrations of the one
single string.
